The following appeared today in our local newspaper and is of interest to many Civil War enthusiasts as the Delta Queen offered many Civil War themed tours:
The historic Delta Queen paddle boat is going to Chattanooga for use as a waterfront boutique hotel.
The boat, which once made regular stops in Clarksville along the Cumberland River, was decommissioned as a passenger carrier in October in Memphis.
The Commercial Appeal quoted officials Tuesday as saying it will be moored in Chattanooga at Coolidge Park Landing in the downtown waterfront area. It has most recently been tied up in New Orleans.
The Delta Queen’s last port of call as a passenger ship was Memphis. It has 87 cabins and is a National Historic Landmark.
It lost its longtime U.S. Coast Guard exemption to carry overnight guests late last year because of its wooden superstructure.
